The Kohlhagen Institute offers telephone counseling and consultation for the convenience of those who do not live close enough to St. Louis, Missouri to meet in person, and for those who prefer the convenience and simplicity of telephone contact.

There is a large and growing body of research that supports the value of telephone counseling for people who insist on top quality therapy, support, and information.

The success and value of this service depends upon your ability to provide accurate and timely information about your history and condition, any medical and pharmaceutical treatment you may be receiving, and other pertinent life, business, and organizational circumstances. Providing this information, along with your correct identity, is your responsibility and will not be verified by the Institute. The Institute cannot be responsible for inaccurate information.

Apart from computer privacy issues that are beyond the control of the Institute, we warrant your privacy and the confidentiality of any information you share with us. Confidentiality is limited by any applicable state, national, and international laws pertaining to suicide, child abuse, terrorism, assault, homicide and related crimes, actions, or intentions. We can disclose information about you in order to avert a threat of harm to yourself or to someone else; such disclosure would be confined to appropriate individuals or agencies whose job it is to deal with such a threat. We may release information about you if required to do so by law enforcement or public health officials. No information can otherwise be shared with any third party by the Institute without a signed release of information on your part. During the first appointment, measures will be put into place to protect your confidentiality during subsequent appointments.

All telephone services are arranged in advance by appointment, and all calls are initiated by you at the arranged time. St. Louis, Missouri is in the United States Central Time Zone. Please call precisely on time.

Be sure to make your appointments at times when you will not be interrupted: additional time cannot be added to your appointment unless such additional time is purchased in advance. Once an appointment has begun, it must be completed as scheduled. You are responsible for the full purchase price of the appointment whether the call is completed or not. If you fail to keep or complete the appointment, or if you cancel and reschedule an appointment less than 24 hours in advance of the scheduled time for the appointment, payment is forfeited. If, for any verifiable technical reason beyond your or the Institute's control, the call cannot be completed as scheduled, it can be rescheduled without penalty. If the Institute is responsible for failure to complete a phone appointment, you will receive full value of your purchased phone time. Purchased phone counseling and consultation is non-refundable.

The first counseling or consultation session will include time spent assessing your situation. Some assessments take more time than others, depending on the history and other circumstances of your issue. In any case, assessment and counseling are part of the same process and are therefore concurrent and ongoing. Time spent in assessment is time spent in treatment. Only necessary and pertinent information is collected.

Many people have worked with the Institute to improve and resolve medical and health issues, problems, and conditions. Nevertheless, it is not the intention of the Institute to state or imply that in-person or phone counseling and consultation is a substitute for medical care. Any decision regarding the need for medical care, including prescription medication, is solely at your discretion, in consultation with a qualified medical professional. The Institute assumes no responsibility for such decisions.

Telephone counseling is limited to the one-on-one connection between the Institute mental health professional and the purchasing client. The Institute has no access to your local support resources for medical, emergency, or therapeutic assistance, and can take no responsibility for access to such services.

Because much of what is taught at the Institute is protected by copyright, and because what is shared with you is in response to your unique and personal questions, concerns, and life history, it is not permitted to record phone counseling and consultation with the Institute. Recording is a copyright violation and a violation of privacy statutes. No statements by the Institute should be construed in any way as being appropriate or applicable to anyone other than you.

You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase these services. If you have any doubt as to your ability to benefit from telephone counseling, please consult in person with a licensed, qualified mental health or medical professional before you decide to purchase this service.

If you have any questions that will help you decide to utilize our telephone counseling and consultation services, please feel free to contact us by e-mail or telephone. Telephone inquiries must be limited to 15 minutes time, and please keep e-mails as brief and succinct as possible. We do not charge for informational phone or e-mail inquiries.
